The Contemplative

Facebook icon Twitter icon Forward icon
This coming Monday we have another Sacred Pathway.
The first Monday of each month we've started these "Spiritual Wellness" mini-retreats.
There is no required reading, but if you'd like, you can read some about it online, or pick up the book from Amazon (kindle), Fishpond (a local bookstore with free shipping) or any of the local Christian bookstores. This idea of Sacred Pathways/Spiritual Temperaments comes from the research on various traditions presented in this book.
The Contemplative
April 1st
Wing on LIfe Garden Function Room, 335 Bukit Timah Rd.
(Some will go out for lunch nearby if you want to plan for a longer time!)
"The contemplative seeks to perform the first work of adoring God.... While some seek to serve The Lord, others seek to celebrate him, and still others seek to explain him, the contemplative seeks to gaze lovingly into God's face and be caught up in the rapture of a lover's experience.... contemplatives want to enjoy God and love him in ever deeper ways." Sacred Pathways, p 176-177
Mary of Bethany the sister of busy Martha, who is pictured here in this painting by Vermeer, is the classic Biblical example of a Contemplative. Here is a website we have found with a good introduction to these traditionally Catholic methods of approaching prayer/spending time in God's presence/meditation.
If you want to read futher than what is provided in the book mentioned, SACRED PATHWAYS, here's an article Why Ignatian Spirituality Hooks Protestants.
Our desire is to create a place for individuals from different backgrounds to explore drawing near to God and knowing him better. Please feel free to invite others to join us by using the forwarding link above; and come along with us on our exploration of these spiritual temperaments in 2013.
Blessed Good Friday Today!
May your Eater weekend be Blessed!

PS We've an extra event this month: I'm not just coordinating the Monthly Monday...I'm acting!
8 Women opened last night and I'm so delighted by the support from my sisters as I've ventured back onstage! SISTIC sells tickets. If your free, join us! Here's where a few from this AWA mailing list have tickets: Tonight (opening) 29th March (row I, seats 11-17), 30th, 8 Women from our group have snatched up Row E, seats 11-18, and 5th April (row C, seats 1-8).
About the Play: Set in France in the 1950’s, in a country mansion a few days before Christmas, the man of the house is found murdered! But who could have “dunnit”?
Isolated from the rest of the village it could only be one of the 8 women in the household. Was it his powerful and beautiful Singaporean wife (Tan Kheng Hua), with a knife? His spinster sister-in-law (Serene Chen), with poison? His miserly mother-in-law (Neo Swee Lin), with a rope? Or maybe it’s the seductive French chambermaid (Morgane Stroobant) or the devoted Indian housekeeper (Daisy Irani), with a pillow? The perfect elder daughter (Sophie Wee) and the playful younger one (Julia Abueva) are not beyond suspicion either. A surprise visit from the victim's sister (Kimberly Creasman) sends the household into more confusion!
As events unfold, we discover each woman has a motive, each a plan, and someone is hiding the biggest secret of all…Murder!
